Lola in Harrogate!

I feel like I’ve been living a bit like Lola here of late- out of a backpack. I was going to write you a quick update, social things, but I’ve just almost finished a mega flickr session and the new uploadr has fallen over on me.

I have officially had enough of stupid computers for the night and I’m off to see Matt for a bit before we head to bed. You might be able to glean some things from my flickr update; no prizes if you guess right though.

I want to blog about a conference I went to, but to do it justice I need to be awake and have a shred of patience left. The new snazzy uploadr just cost me 40 mins work, so that is all out of the question! Grrrrr….

Oh, if you didn’t already know, I successfully upgraded to PhD registration on Monday. 17 months to go…..

Right now I’m just too tired of words in general to write a proper post. I’ve got lots to share, insights gleaned from writing my Transfer, photo’s from Jo’s gorgeous wedding to upload and need to sing the praises of my lovely Matt and my awesome friends who have dealt with more tears and stress this week than anyone should have to. It wasn’t all about the Transfer of Doom either- Dad is back in hospital, again. I really hope he gets better this time, and I’m off to see him tomorrow. I’m hoping they let him come out and feed the ducks with me.

I also have to swot up on chemistry, lots, as my Viva is scaring me, big time. And this is just the Upgrade!! The thought of the real thing, given how difficult this is all proving is too big right now….

I think I need a weekend off though, Matt is away at a stag weekend, but I have all sorts of plans for sleeping lots and catching up with people. Sarah (the mad lady who comes on fieldwork with me) has a birthday bash tonight, seeing Dad tomorrow, then seeing the lovely Stu and Tree who’re going to ‘babysit’ me after seeing Dad and possibly needing hugs, then Sunday maybe heading down the coast to see some vampire-type people, before coming to Bournemouth for the day on Monday to move house! Then I’m at the HEA conference in Harrogate (and helping run a workshop, eek!)….. It’s all go. Viva on the 14th. I will update you folks before then!

The resolutions have sort of slipped this last 31 days, so I’m back on the good food, lots of exercise, keeping a diary wagon, as of today…. which means no celebratory pizza and chocolate, and that I’m off to go do some situps and pack my stuff ready for the house move!

If you read my tumblog or follow me on twitter you’ll know why I’ve not posted. It’s all a bit hectic in PhD land. I am still alive and normal service will resume shortly.

Trying not to break the blogging resolution but far too busy to do anything like ‘proper’ writing…

I sat down last week and made a plan for getting the Transfer finished early so i can get some feedback etc before it gets turned in. Those plans don’t leave much room for life, sadly, but they are going well. I have now processed all of the data collected to date for the PhD (rather than the ‘quick look’ processing one does in the field and immediately post to see what you’ve got) and it’s all been through the conversion process and is (almost) all now sitting in the GIS waiting to be made pretty. I’m reading lots and going to hit the writing over the weekend.

I have to keep reminding myself that a) I’ve already done a lot of the writing, it just needs refining, and b) I’m only allowed 10,000 words!

This weekend (tomorrow in fact) the not-spouse and I are off to Devon to celebrate the wedding of a good friend, and stay in a very pretty guest house with our other good friends Stu and Tree (who got married 18 months ago). We are awaiting the onslaught of ’so when is it your turn?’ questions, and looking forward to the pretty train journey and the really nice place we have to stay.

I’ll be taking clarissa (the laptop) though, and working on the less pretty bits of the 3 hour journey. I promise to Flckr the photos, but perhaps not till next weekend when the first draft will (all things going to plan) be with the supervisors, getting feedback….

I’m off to swim now- still haven’t replaced my bike so I’m doing a bit extra to try to keep on top of things until I do. Then I’m off back to Southampton as I have tomorrow ‘off’ to go down to Devon.

The Evil Red Bicycle

My bike was stolen yesterday. Not much else to say really. In January I hated it, but it helped me loose 2 stone and saved me lots of money and time as well.

I loved it. I cried this morning. Tomorrow I am going to go round all the local ‘cash converter’ type shops and see if I can find it. I’ve told the Police, they are going to (hopefully) take prints from what the idiots left behind. We are insured, but it’s worth less than the policy excess.

Bastards.
