Maybe it just takes time for the smoke to drift up Olympus?

Well, this week the weather seems to be better.

Maybe the Storm Gods suffer really bad lag? Or it just takes them a little while to ‘action requests’…

I’m looking forward to this weekend a lot more now that I’m pretty sure we are going to be able to see where we are going and not be completely soaked after the first 5 minutes out of the car….

So, I’ll be offline again ’till late Sunday. Those of you in the know can ring me if you miss me all that badly :p

I’ve just been called ‘the death metal geophysics goddess/ fiend’ by my old supervisor during a discussion about music for our road trip to York.

It really made me smile 🙂

He’s the one stood next to me. He found it very amusing that I had Joy Division as the ringtone on my phone for most of my MSc.

I probably wouldn’t have finished without his help either….

Funny, the things we take as compliments (and knowing the Godhead, it was meant as one 😉 )

I have duly decided to redye my hair to live up to the statement 😀

Neko out, and happy

I’m back (for now)

Drying out take 2!

Dartmoor didn’t quite kill me, though I am somewhat dead, it hasn’t properly taken and I should be fine in a day or so, just in time to go and do it all again next weekend!

The photo sums the weekend up quite neatly I think. The weather was never quite bad enough to make us head off site, but enough to get you bone numbingly cold and dog tired just from fighting the wind and straining to see properly in the mist all day.

I’ll try to write things up a bit better during the week, but it is safe to say that it was hard work, but very enjoyable, and that I owe Sarah most, if not all, of my immortal soul for making it possible to get there, then venturing out with me and working really bloody hard, for no pay, and being happy to go and do it all again this week! Mad, but I’m not going to argue…

Neko out for now

Maybe burning a bullocks heart with some fragrant herbs will help?

I’ve spent all week trying to think of ways to appease the Storm Gods, to no avail.

Y’see, I’m off to this lovely site tonight (well, to the general area tonight, then onsite tomorrow), and the weather forecast is really rather poor. It has calmed down from predictions early in the week which were for constant heavy rain and Force 8 gusting to 9! Now, I can just expect to get rained on for most of tomorrow, and a good chunk of Saturday, with winds of about Force 6. The only upside is that all the cloud cover and the prevailing wind direction means it will be quite warm for this time of year (though I have to remember to factor in wind chill and that I’ll be soaked- I can’t wear nice heavy duty waterproofs as they are full of little bits of metal, which screws up my results). Sarah is coming with me to drive and to be my survey assistant. She, like me, is insane enough to be looking forward to the experience. I am blessed to have such friends 🙂

Apart from appeasing the Gods, this week I’ve swum a kilometre, met my targets for my other exercises and biked to uni each day I was supposed to, and I’m doing good on the food front too! I have to quietly admit that I’m starting to like this whole exercise thing. I miss it on the days I don’t do it, so find something else to do instead. When I’m in Southampton I don’t have my bike, and I have found myself going out for long walks, briskly, walking instead of getting the bus… Or doing double exercises that day. I feel so much better than last week. This morning I was a little low on energy, but my mood was really good. I just have to keep going, and my cheering squad are really helping with that, thanks guys!!

I’m missing the Portsmouth Vampire lot tonight 😦 I hope you guys all had fun and that a certain someone’s first game as a ref went well!!

I’ve also cracked on with some really important data processing, and should have my paper ready in time for UKCAA 08 in York in a couple of weeks time. I have anomalies in my results, for the first time, that appear to be archaeologically relevant. This has boosted me quite a bit as it confirms that my PhD at least has something to explain, to investigate. Even if it turns out not to be possible to prospect in these environments, I should be able to say why!!

Shortly I’ll be off, and consequently away from any internet access ’till very late on Sunday, so if you need me you’ll have to wait unless you are lucky enough to have my mobile number!

Think of me when you are all tucked up and cosy at home/work over the next few days…

Neko out!

To Good Friends…

I have great friends.

Em, Hannah and Kelly kept me sane on Thursday when (as you already know) I was having an epically bad day.

Then when I got home, Stu Tree and Vinnie cheered me up by being pleased to see me on Friday, and saying they’ll miss me for the next 3 weeks when I won’t be home for weekends ’cause of fieldwork.

Then last night, people came over from two different towns to go out dancing with me. We danced all night, then they walked me home and made sure I didn’t break the diet and succumb to pizza. They also put up with a rather drunk Neko, it has to be said.

Cas managed to miss it all by being trapped in the 80’s by the light up dance floor. You’ll have to ask her about it 😉

The not-spouse-creature seems to have infinite patience for my ‘bad’ weeks…

Thanks guys, you are all very much loved, but I hope you knew that anyway 🙂

Neko, no longer down.

Difficult

Today is difficult.

I have no idea why. I’m tired, fed up, and totally lost (or at least feel that way) in terms of uni work and priorities that all the million things I need to get finished have.

I’m sure I’ll feel better tomorrow.

I still got on the bike this morning afternoon (by the time I made myself get out of my pit), despite the gale outside.

I just needed to let the world know my day was sucking, royally.

Neko, down, but not out…
